Amazing Somerset Wildlife Tours

Somerset Crane Tours

October – March

Morning Crane tours offer the greatest chance to see the birds. Heading out just before dawn we will get into a location where we will see these magnificent birds leave the roost with every chance they will fly over our heads. We will stay and watch the birds feed for a while and then proceed across the moor to see more of Somersets wildlife.

Day time search Crane tour will entail a trip across the moors in search of the Crane whilst feeding. Often in large groups once found we will stop and watch and there is often something going on among the birds. This tour offers a great chance to see Somersets fantastic moorland habitat and a range of bird and mammal species.

Afternoon return to roost tour. After spending the day on the feeding grounds the birds will return to roost. Heading out on the moor we will spend time in the landscape to see other Somerset wildlife species. Then settling down in a location where it will be possible to view the birds as they come home to roost for the night.

Truly amazing birds, with there 2 meter wingspan, some standing 1.4 meter tall and their loud honking call make for a haunting sound across the moor. The morning and afternoon Crane tours also offers an opportunity to take in a Somerset sunrise/set, a great chance to take some pictures. Although there is no guarantee when wildlife watching, we have observed the birds for some time now and have a good knowledge of their movements to offer the best chance of sightings.
